Flying Pumpkins and Lions

We have been having all sorts of fall fun the past couple of weekends. We went to watch giant trebuchet launch pumpkins in the air at the Lake Orion Pumpkin Launch. I put an arrow in where the pumpkin is since it's really just a black spec in the photograph. The small one at the front of the photograph was built by a group of kids. It is really cool to see a pumpkin thrown that far, unfortunately they went so far that we did not get to see the splat as they hit the ground.

This weekend we took out little lion out trick-or-treating twice. Friday night we went to Greenfield Village with my family. It was a great time with wonderfully imaginative Halloween fun. There are pirates, ghost widows, skeletons playing the bones, and a headless horsemen just to name a few. Nate thought the giant horse was way cool!

Saturday night we went to Zoo Boo with my husband's family. As you can see below, there are a lot little ones in the family. It was another great night, though we did have a tougher time keeping Nate happy, he was getting really tired by then. He did love the Zoo Boo Revue. It was a short song and dance act that is put on with several dressed up characters. He was absolutely enthralled with the whole show. He spent most of it dance on my lap, my jeans were really dirty by the end, but hey it's the price you pay for a good time right!

It's Done! It's Done!

I finally finished this beast:

I had intended to make it a Birthday present for Nate (that was August 19th.). It is finally finished today, on October 16th, not quite two months later. It was just one of those projects that got away from me. I should have used spray paint for all but the table top instead of acrylic paint, but alas hind sight is 20/20.

It did turn out really cute and most importantly...

Nate appears to love it. He was very excited when he came out this morning to find it in his play area. He has want to play around with it since I started painting the silly thing back in July.

Toddler and Trouble, it's like peas and carrots

Here's Nathans latest favorite toy box:

Yup toddler=trouble. I have worked a lot of equations in my career as an engineer, but none has rung as true as this one. By the end of the day there was Tupperware from one end of the house to the next, a water trial from the laundry room to Nate's bedroom (we have a self fed dog water bowl, Nate took the bottle portion of and carried it around) and every article of clothing he owns was spread out on the floor. Ah, but motherhood is such fun.

Art in the Village

I spent most of this weekend at Art in the Village in Clarkston, MI. It was a good art fair. I spent Saturday working my sisters both as she was at our friend Mary's Wedding (congratulations Mary, I heard it was a wonderful wedding). Sunday I spoke with the artist about photography services. I also snapped both shots for a few people. The best photo was of Avant garden. His work was really beautiful and his set-up lent itself to some wonderful both photos. I was going to take some photographs of his demonstration sprinkler, but his pump wasn't working. Ah well, maybe next year.

If you ever go to this show, there is one thing you must do. Get a piece of pizza. It is from Rudy's market right in downtown Clarkston and it is some of the best pizza ever made! There is always a group selling it at the show as a fundraiser. It was a good weekend, I would always recommend this show if you have the time.

Blog Giveaway!

After mulling it over for more than a year, I have decided to start a business. I am going to market product photography specifically at art fair crafters. I have been handling all of my Sister's product photography for about two years. My work has increased the number and quality of shows that are accepting her. So, I am going to offer the same services to other crafters and artisans.

I have been working on marketing materials and a website, but I have one major problem. I have drawn an absolute blank on a company name. Please help!!!! I need ideas. I will put everyone that gives me an idea in a drawing. The winner will receive an 8X10 framed art photograph. The winner will be able to choose from the three photographs shown here. I took all three of these photographs in Lake Orion, MI this summer.

I look forward to all of your great ideas!

The Soul Guardians

I wrote the story that will accompany the Soul Guardians that where featured in my last post. This is their short story:

Have you ever felt that little push at your shoulder that helped find your way? Have you ever heard that little whisper on the wind that told which way to go? Have you ever saw a light in the dark that guided you home? If you have, than the Soul Guardians have touched your life. The guardians fly about our life helping us out where we need it the most. Just when you think you have lost your hope, found the end of your endless love or had your joy runaway with your luck the soul guardians step in to hold you up. Count on these lovely winged ladies to keep you going when things look dark.

It was a creative frenzy

I basically locked myself in my studio this week and it paid off. First, I finished Tulip. She will be on display at Sewing Expo in Novi September 25-27. This will be the first piece I have exhibited! I am really happy with the way she turned out. If any of you are going to Sewing Expo check out the Off the Wall Exhibit. It is being put on by the art group that I belong to, Running with Scissors (http://www.rws-fiberarts.org/). All of the pieces will be three dimensional fiber art.

In addition to finishing Tulip, I also finished two prototypes. I think these will be called Soul Guardians, but I am not completely sold on the name yet. Runs with Scissors is planning a Holiday Art Show. I am planning to make a couple dozen of these to sell at the show. The large version has a loop so that she can hang anywhere. The smaller version is a pin. We will see how it goes.
